This layout was designed, built and donated to the Chapter by Jim Medlin. Later, Norma & Victor Alvarez donated the landscape and the recently added third module.

The "Kid’s Layout" is a portable 6'x12', built in three modules that can easily be transported in a van. It consists of two trains running in separate loops. The outer loop has a spur that goes through the passenger station and will be “blocked” to operate two trains (one leaving and the other arriving to the station) the center loop is a modified figure “eight”, It has several accessories and buildings and a highway in the middle. An Amusement park with the new Lionel carrousel has been included. It is interactive where kids can actually operate the two trains and three accessories. Under construction is a “NASA Rocket Launching Area” to be also interactive. This Layout is only four inches above the floor.

At Houston GATS January 2002, Kid’s Layout won the third place out of 27 participating layouts.

As a community service last Christmas, we took the "Kid’s Layout" to the Shriners Children Hospital. It was very rewarding to see children faces when they would operate the trains, especially the flying Santa Claus!

Kids Layout goes HALLOWEEN seasonal and shows the versatility of Kids Layout design. It certainly was the most visited Layout during the GATS Pasadena Show in October 2002.
